Now that the April showers are finally gone, it's the perfect time to clean up your car. Use these tips to give your car the best spring cleaning.

How to Spring Clean Your Vehicle

Since April showers are known to bring May flowers, now is the perfect time to spring clean your vehicle. Before tackling this task, however, be sure you know how to thoroughly clean your car. Instead of just focusing your attention on the exterior, use these tips to get your car fully clean.

Wipe Down Interior Surfaces

When spring cleaning your car, start with the interior spaces. The best place to start is with the surfaces inside your car. Grab a damp washcloth and wipe down the surfaces that have been collecting dirt and dust. Focus your attention on the dashboard, the steering wheel, the center consoles (especially the cupholders), and the doors. Using a damp washcloth is the best option because a dry rag will only throw the dust and dirt into the air, while a damp washcloth will trap it before it has a chance to settle on another surface. Finish off by cleaning the interior glass area, such as your windshield and windows.

Grab Your Vacuum

Once you're done with the surfaces, grab your vacuum and its attachments. Remove the mats from your car and set them aside for now. Grab your vacuum and suck up as much dirt, dust, and debris as you can from the seats as well as the carpet. Use different attachments so that you're sure you're getting into all nooks and crannies. Don't forget to push your seats back so that you can clean under them as well. It may be a good idea to keep a trash bag handy where you can toss larger items you find, like old water bottles and food wrappers.

Clean out the Trunk

Don't put your vacuum away just yet! You'll need it to get your trunk clean as well. Of course, you'll have to remove all the items in your trunk first. Separate your items into different piles: items you can store, items you can throw out, and items that will get put back into your trunk. If you're lugging around clothing or winter items, these can be stored in your home. Trash and other items that are broken beyond repair can be tossed out. Items like extra fluids or an emergency kit will need to be put back in place. Once you've got all these items sorted, go ahead and vacuum up all the debris left in your trunk. Once the space and nice and clean, put the items you still need back in place. To get your car ready for a great spring, you will need to do a bit more than just wash it. Start your maintenance by giving it a synthetic oil change in Austin. Not sure why using a synthetic oil is so important? Scrub Down the Tires

Now it's finally time to focus some attention on your car's exterior. To start, if you were using winter tires, it's definitely time to change back to all season tires. If you were already using all season tires, give them a good wash so that you can inspect their condition a bit more thoroughly. Check them for signs of excessive wear, uneven wear, and for damage they may have sustained during the winter. If they're still in good shape, the next step is to check their air pressure. Be sure they're at the proper pressure so that you are safe on the road and get better gas mileage.

Wash the Exterior

Once your tires are looking good, focus your cleaning attention on your car's body. Washing off any grime left over from the winter will not only make your car look nicer, it will also ensure your car stays well protected for longer. Snow, rain, and road salts can all be very corrosive and damaging to your car's paint job, so either get your car professionally washed or be sure you do a thorough job. Once your car is clean and shiny, give it a new layer of wax. By waxing your car you are giving it another layer of protection that will ensure corrosive substances wont' cause much damage this season.
